Tribute to a business leader

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The Enhancing Civil Society Project (ECSP) of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), congratulates Ms. Donna Duncan-Scott on winning the Business Observer award of Business Leader of the Year 2001. We enthusiastically applaud this achievement in your capacity as managing director of the Jamaica Money Market Brokers.

We are especially proud of your achievement because you are a woman in the still male-dominated field of finance, although you have indicated that your focus on JMMB is on the broader strategic, human resource and cultural development. Our Project, being gender-sensitive, alerts us to the different realities of men and women in Jamaica and encourages the participation of women in decision-making at all levels of the society.

Thank you for your contribution, through the management of a leading enterprise in Jamaica's money market industry, to our nation's development and for being a role model for our women and girls. Thank you too for demonstrating that teamwork, love and spirituality have a vital place in the corporate world.

I am, etc.,

Paulette Griffiths-Jude,

Marlene Harris-Lamont,

Patricia Donald-Mitchell

Secretariat, Enhancing Civil Society Project (CIDA)
