By Chaos, Freelance WriterTHE FIFTH in a series of six of 'Ultimate Fridays - Xwray Shock' was held at Indies Pub and Grill, 8 Holborn Road, last Friday.
The venue was packed. At least 700 patrons paid the $300 cover charge (no re-entry) and filled the courtyard and the main building at Indies, listening and dancing to the beats laid down by the sound system Epidemik and deejays Jazzy T and Arif Cooper, who were taking half an hour-long intervals at the turntables.
Going into the main building was a hazardous pursuit, since there were continuously streaming lines filing into and out of the crushing crowd. The situation was not helped by the bottles that rolled underfoot and one mountain of a girl who sat on a short wall beside the entrance, looking forlorn. The ladies were out in their finery, with low-riding hip-huggers being the most popular piece of clothing, and in quite a number of cases it seemed, without underwear. In some cases however, that particular piece of clothing was an...ill-advised choice. Many stood around in groups, while others danced in groups, as they 'zipped', 'logged on' and 'on-lined' with abandon and apparently without a care in the world.
A line of five couples risked temporary deafness as they got as graphic as they could possibly be while still clothed and in public. The men had their backs to the speaker as the ladies alternately faced towards and away from them, gyrating in quite interesting ways.
On the outside, two tall men stood in line with a fetching young lady as they did amusing dance moves, involving a synchronised sinuous motion of the hands and upper arms from one direction to the other and including funky upper body movements. Other couples were content to stay close and 'wine' the night away.
As is too often the case at this type of event, the bars were chronically understaffed, resulting in annoyingly long waits at both the bars and the ticket booths one needed to patronise in order to actually buy anything. It was interesting to note that advertisements for the event had stated that Xrays would be available on a '2 for 1' basis, but this was not immediately evident at Indies until one noticed that the rest of the bottled drinks - Heinekens, etc. - were a $100 each and an Xray cost $50.
What was fun to watch was the way, which the young ladies present danced with gusto to songs which went into very 'intimate' detail about what should be done to the female form during sex.
'Meet and greet's' were numerous, with people greeting others they probably saw earlier in the day with intense fervour, hugs and kisses being exchanged galore. The smell of ganja also wafted through the air on the occasion.
