THE EDITOR, Sir:
HUGH CROSSKILL'S death has helped to bring the previously hidden drug underworld to the forefront. Now we are beginning to grasp just how huge this problem really is and the underlying causes and effects of it. I read with bewilderment the Star's 'expose' on this serious subject matter.
Cliff Hughes' programme "Impact" on Sunday last was another profound eye-opener into Jamaica's drug underworld that has been, from all accounts, secretly destroying Jamaica for several years. The young man that Cliff interviewed was articulate in communicating his message about how dangerous drug addiction is. He has been a drug addict for the past 20 years and shared his harrowing experience with Cliff and the viewing public.
At many points throughout the interview the young man was in tears as he related his tragic story. Much has been reported on drug mules but it is refreshing that due to the death of Hugh Crosskill Jr. much more attention is being paid to this previously taboo subject.
This interview needs to be played in secondary schools throughout Jamaica as part of the campaign against drug abuse. Indeed, Hugh's death will not have been in vain if these exposé continue to unfold.
