Jamaican duo help MetroStars win 2-0

FOXBORO, CMC:

THE New York/New Jersey MetroStars, with Jamaicans Andy Williams and Craig Ziadie in their line-up, beat the New England Revolution 2-0 Saturday night to tighten the race in the US Major League Soccer (MLS) Eastern Conference.

Forward Clint Mathis, making his first start since starring for the U.S. at 2002 World Cup, registered two assists in the MetroStars' win at the CMGi Field.

In other results, Dallas defeated Columbus, San Jose beat Kansas City, and DC United dismissed the Los Angeles Galaxy, with Caribbean stars Ezra Hendrickson (St.Vincent) and Tyrone Marshall (Jamaica).

The MetroStars got goals from Mamadou Diallo (5th minute) and Mark Lisi (85th) and climbed to joint third in the Eastern Conference - on 17 points - with the Chicago Fire, trailing DC United (19) and Columbus (18).

At the Cotton Bowl, a golden goal decided the game with home side Dallas Burn defeating the Columbus Crew 1-0. Burn forward Jason Kreis provided the goal in the 98th minute.

The San Jose Earthquakes rallied for a come-from-behind 2-1 win over the Wizards at the Spartan Stadium, through late goals from Ariel Graziani and Ramiro Corrales.

Dario Fabbro had sent Kansas City ahead in the 16th minute.

And at the RFK Stadium, Bobby Convey scored his first goal of the season in the eighth minute of sudden-death extra-time to give DC United a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Hendrickson and Marshall both made full game appearances for Los Angeles, who are fourth in the west on 20 points, behind San Jose (29), Dallas (23) and Colorado (22).
