WESTERN BUREAU:
THE JAMAICA Pig Farmers Association (JPFA) will now be launched on Thursday, July 18, 2002 at the Kirkvine Sports Club, Shooters Hill, Manchester. The original launch date was put back due to the recent flood rains, which forced a postponement of the event.
The association's primary objectives will be to promote, plan, organise and implement pig development programmes that will make the island self-sufficient in pork and pork products. Another aim of the JPFA is to make local pork production a sustainable activity on a long-term, globally competitive, basis.
Agriculture Minister Roger Clarke will be the main speaker and presentation will also come from Jack Muschette, one of the founding fathers of the local pig industry, the National Environment Planning Agency and the Agri-Business Council.
Grace Kitchens, the Jamaica 4-H Clubs and AROSA will be tantalising the taste buds with a variety of pork dishes. All pig farmers are invited to Thursday's launching and to become members of the Association.
