HARD ROCK Cafe International has reached a settlement agreement forcing merchandise and cafe operators in Jamaica to stop using its name.
Hard Rock Cafe finalised a settlement against four establishments selling counterfeit Hard Rock Cafe merchandise and operating infringing restaurants in Jamaica, according to a company news release issued on Monday.
By July 15, 2002, the entities in question - Hard Rock Limited, Hard Rock Cafe Factory Outlet Jamaica Limited, Hard Rock Reggae Limited and Herb Rock Cafe Limited - were to cease using Hard Rock's trademarks on signage advertising, bags and any written or promotional material, the company stated. Furthermore, the operators were to immediately change all company names.
A call to two of the four independently owned companies revealed that they had yet to remove their signage but were in the process of doing so. Wednesday Business was told that the businesses would not close, but continue operating under different names.
Based in Orlando, Florida, currently there are more than 100 Hard Rock Cafes in 40 countries, the company stated.
