The powers that be and restiveness

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AS I watched a talk show aired on TVJ on Sunday, July 14, 2002, I was struck with what is probably an unfortunate reality. It came to me when the host highlighted the readiness of our Jamaican citizens to demonstrate, picket, strike, etc., that this too, is a part of our heritage.

Isn't this what most of our heroes gain their status for? Wasn't this the method most of them used to gain some of the privileges that we enjoy today?

It is my opinion that until the powers that be start to respond positively to negotiations, petitions, etc., this method of attracting their attention will not die.

I am, etc.,
