I AM appalled at the government's lack of common sense whereby they deem it fit to return a higher percentage of the lottery funds (tax) to sports above education and health. When last I checked, we were still a third world country with limited resources. The actions of the government tell us that their priority is sports and our children's education and health are secondary.
Perhaps being a new mother with a child's future to account for I cannot understand the rationale behind the decision. Health facilities islandwide are in need of upgrading and basic equipment and yet they will, even with upgrading, still fall short of state-of-the-art facilities. As our underpaid teachers understandably flee the island in droves to better-paying, better-equipped foreign schools our children are left behind watching the dust as they leave.
Yet, despite this and more our Government in its wisdom, thinks it wise to throw more money at sports? We have arrived at the gates of a new low in our society. Were I at all confused before about which party to not cast my vote for, that cloud of doubt has been lifted.
