MillerTHE VOTERS list, which was reprinted at a cost of about $500,000 after the names of 214 electors were inadvertently left off by the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) in May, is now ready for distribution.
Neville Graham, Information Officer at the EOJ, said the list was completed by the July 19 deadline as promised by Professor Miller, Chairman of the Electoral Advisory Committee (EAC).
He said the document had been completed since last Friday but could not be delivered on the weekend. Instead, it will be delivered during the course of this week to the various constituency offices and post offices islandwide.
Last month, the EAC admitted at a press briefing that it had made an error which had resulted in 214 persons in 47 constituencies being left off the voters' list published on May 31. The omission took place while the list was being cleaned, following the latest round of voter registration which saw more than 53,000 persons applying to be registered between October 2001 and March 2002. Of that number, 37,747 electors were added, pushing the list to a record 1,301,379. With the addition of the 214 names, the number now stands at 1,301,593.
Political parties and members of the public had until July 12 to notify the EAC of any other omissions.
