Cops step up probe into murder of cattle farmer

PORUS:

THE MANDEVILLE Police have intensified investigations into the murder of 59-year-old cattle farmer Robert Sutton, who was killed at his home in Marshall's Pen, Manchester on Monday night.

Acting Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of crime for the parish, Detective Inspector Byron Cunningham, told The Gleaner yesterday that homicide detectives from Kingston have been called in to assist in investigations.

So far one suspect has been identified and, according to Detective Inspector Cunningham, the police are now compiling scientific evidence to make an arrest. An identification parade may follow any arrest linked with this incident, he said.

On Monday night at about 11:30 p.m. two men armed with knives gained entry to Mr. Sutton's residence through a window. They reportedly encountered Mr. Sutton and a confrontation developed. A knife was used to stab the 59-year-old man in his left upper back and his left side. Mr. Sutton ran to the nearby maids' quarters where he collapsed and died.

His wife, 50-year-old ecologist, Ann Sutton, was abducted into bushes where she was robbed of gold rings and a bracelet.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for today to determine the cause of Mr. Sutton's death.
