Congratulations, Minister Peart and Senator Morris.
THE EDITOR, Sir:
A FEW weeks ago, our beautiful island was badly affected by torrential rains. The rains severely affected the island and caused the Government to declare five parishes disaster zones.
During this time, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security has been charged with the responsibility to deal with the disaster relief and to restore the lives of the citizens to normality. I must take this opportunity to commend the Minister of Labour and Social Security, the Dean Peart and the Minister of State in the same Ministry, Senator Floyd Morris, for the tremendous work done. In all my 67 years in Jamaica, it is the first time I have witnessed a disaster relief effort where no one has pointed to the Government as distributing benefits on a partisan basis.
Both Minister Peart and Senator Morris have insisted that this must not be done and we can say that truly has not been done. This is a positive achievement and when good things happen, we must highlight it. Their approach must be commended and must be heralded as a model to how others conduct the business of government.
Salvation Army, Red Cross, Adventist Disaster Relief Agency (ADRA) and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency (ODPEM) - these groups ought to be commended as well as without them, the well-done job could not be possible. Keep the positive vibes flowing.
