Local quartet in WI U-19 squad

FOUR Jamaicans have been included in a 14-man Under-19 cricket squad named by the West Indies Cricket Board's Junior selection committee to prepare for a possible tour of India later this year.

The Jamaicans included in the squad which was announced on Saturday night by Ezra Moseley at the Regional Under-19 presentation ceremony held at Kings House are - batsmen Shawn Findlay and Xavier Marsahll, all-rounder Krishmar Santokie and fast bowler Jerome Taylor.

Meanwhile, Trinidad & Tobago's Ravi Rampaul was the star of the night, the pacer walked away with three awards.

He took home the leading wicket-taker award (record 45 wickets), Most Valuable player and a special award for his regional record of 10 wickets for six runs in an innings.

Other individual awards went to leading runs scorer Martin Nurse (334) of Barbados, best wicketkeeper Gareth Matthews of Leeward Islands and Jamaica's Marshall (269 runs, seven wickets) took home the best all-rounder award.

Barbados collected the three-day trophy, Windward Islands went home with the one-day title, while hosts Jamaica picked up the best fielding team award.

The junior selection committee, comprising chairman Clyde Butts, Ezra Moseley and Derek Parry did not name a captain.

Four other players - Trinidad & Tobago's Dwayne Bravo and all-rounder Lendl Simmons along with Windwards' Darren Sammy and Alston Bobb are eligible for selection. Al four are members of their country's senior teams in the Red Stripe Bowl tournament.

Squad: Corey Edwards, Kirk Edwards, Jason Smith, Martin Nurse, Kenroy Williams, Ryan Wiggins (Barbados), Xavier Marshall, Krishmar Santokie, Shawn Findlay, Jerome Taylor (Jamaica), Gareth Matthews (Leeward Islands), Zaheer Mohammed (Guyana), Ravi Rampaul (Trinidad & Tobago), Liam Sebastian (Windward Islands).
