Structure of the JIC

THE JIC for Port Bustamante comprises 12 members, six appointed from the Shipping Association of Jamaica with the other six being appointed by the trade unions representing portworkers.

All members of the Council retire annually but are eligible for re-appointment.

Both management and labour are required to elect one person as co-chairman, each of whom serves as chairman (at any meeting) in alternate months. Whenever a dispute arises, which the Council cannot resolve, the matter can immediately be referred to the Conciliation Services of the Ministry of Labour.
