BLACK RIVER, St. Elizabeth:

SUPERINTENDENT HERMAN "Chucky" Brown of the St. Elizabeth Police Division, says the police in the parish are ready for the upcoming general election and he expects a peaceful campaign from all the candidates in the parish.

"I have met with all the Returning
Officers and I was pleased with the feedback that I have received. We are also getting the needed resources to ensure our readiness for the entire period of the election", Supt. Brown told The Gleaner in an interview on August 26.

He said he would be meeting before the end of this week with all the candidates in the parish who would be contesting the elections. More than 1,000 "one-day police" had been trained to do duties on election day, he said.

"I foresee a peaceful election campaign", Supt Brown said. "On the other hand, the police officers who I lead are ready and prepared for any eventualities that might occur."

He said the St. Elizabeth police would be getting some well-needed resources including some additional vehicles in time for the elections.
