Young Boyz march on

FOLLOWING his hat-trick in the opening leg on Friday, Anthony Christie's 13th minute penalty helped the Young Reggae Boyz to a 2-1 victory over St. Kitts and Nevis in their second leg Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-17 world qualifier at Warner Park, Bassetterre, yesterday.

Jamaica won the Group A tie 7-2 on aggregate will now face Group B winners Antigua and Barbuda, who defeated Grenada 6-1 yesterday for a 8-1 aggregate win for a spot in the Caribbean zone's final round.

The Young Reggae Boyz, aiming to repeat their 1999 qualification to the World Under-17 Championship, were on their way when Jonathan Grant's Steven Morrissey got past three defenders before he was brought down in the area.

Excelsior marksman Christie, who scored three in three minutes (55th, 56th and 58th) out of Jamaica's 5-1 first-leg victory, stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake from the spot to give his team an early 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, Morrissey put the result beyond doubt.

The Caribbean is allotted two spots for the CONCACAF final round from which three teams will advance to the World Youth Finals in Finland next summer.

The CONCACAF final round is set for Canada and Guatemala next March.
