THE EDITOR, Sir:
KINDLY ALLOW me the opportunity to publicly thank and commend a member of The Jamaica Constabulary Force.
On Friday, September 20, 2002 while travelling along Half-Way-Tree Road (towards Cross Roads) my car simply shut down after stopping for the traffic light. I had no way of moving the vehicle so I put my hazard lights on and went to find a phone card to get some help.
I was gone for no more than 10 minutes. On returning to the car a motorcycle cop was by my car. I greeted him and explained to him my situation. He was firm that the car was an obstruction but quite understanding. Unfortunately he admitted that he had already called for a tow-truck. I was still having difficulty with my cell phone. To my surprise the goodly gentleman reached for his cell phone and offered to make the call for me! I accepted and called for help. Help finally came and he was quite helpful with us while we made the make-shift adjustments in order to get the car moving, and I consequently was on my way once again.
I am indeed grateful to this splendid citizen (firstly) and police officer. I must be frank in saying that I had never before had a reason to be particularly thankful. Most of my experiences with policemen were lukewarm to cold at best. But this speaks to the fact that there are still very good citizens in the JCF, and I would like to thank not only this gentleman (whose name I hadn't gotten) but all members of the JCF. My one regret is that though I had thanked him repeatedly, I never got his particulars in order to reimburse him for the phone call he so generously allowed. Sir, I am exceedingly proud of you and I implore you to keep up the good work, and once again I thank you.
I am etc.,
