A PEOPLE'S National Party (PNP) meeting held in the town square of Spaldings, Clarendon, on Tuesday night drew thousands of supporters.
The meeting, which began at 6:30 p.m., heard from the Minister of National Security, Dr. Peter Phillips, who earlier conducted on a tour of North East Manchester and North West Clarendon. He reiterated the party's plans as outlined in its 2002 Manifesto.
Minister of Health John Junor issued a challenge to Mr. Bruce Golding to reject an offer by the Jamaica Labour Party, if he had any decency and self-respect. He also quoted figures to indicate that the Opposition's plans for health were impractical.
Among the other speakers were Richard Azan, the candidate for North West Clarendon and Mrs. Dorothy Miller of North East Manchester. At 8:00 p.m., the crowd responded wildly as the drowning engine of a helicopter heralded the arrival of Prime Minister P.J. Patterson.
The crowd became frenzied when Mr. Patterson shouted into the microphones "since Sunday some a dem a holla, some a bawl."
The Prime Minister said the Opposition was using his health as an election issue and even referred to his campaign vehicle as an ambulance.
He said that one of the reasons for the JLP not yet calling their meeting at Half-Way Tree was because they were meeting with Bruce Golding, the former JLP politician and former president of the National Democratic Movement.
