Spanish Twn Hospital on JLP agenda

JAMAICA LABOUR Party (JLP) Leader Edward Sea-ga has committed a JLP Government to the redevelopment and rebuilding of the Spanish Town Hospital in St. Catherine.

He gave the undertaking while addressing a party mass meeting in the old capital.

Mr. Seaga said the Spanish Town Hospital was the only major facility that had been left out of the hospital rebuilding programme, undertaken some years ago, and he intended to see the situation corrected under a JLP Government.

He said the Spanish Town Hospital was in a deplorable state, but had not been included because of its location, in the heart of a JLP constituency.

"Anything that is going on, they leave out West Kingston and they leave out Central St. Catherine," he said of the Govern-ment's policies.

A VERY SPECIAL
MEASURE OF HEALTH

However, he said that under a JLP administration, the St. Catherine capital would be in line for "a very special measure of health" in that "Spanish Town... is due to become a first class hospital for the people of the area."

Mr. Seaga also highlighted the qualities of his St. Catherine team of candidates. He noted that of the nine members, four were doctors, one was on the way to similar qualification, two were lawyers, one was a grandson of Marcus Garvey and the other was "a noble daughter of Jamaica Babsy Grange".

The JLP Leader said he was proud to have such a team, which was unmatched by the PNP across St. Catherine or any other parish islandwide.

Deputy General Secre-tary and candidate for Southeast St. Catherine, Arthur Williams, said the People's National Party (PNP) leadership had been avoiding the real issues along the campaign trail and the electorate had been catching on.

"Every time you see them on the platform, all you hear is, 'My horse dis and my horse dat'. That is not what Jamaica's future is about. We have to get rid of this foolishness and get to the real business of the nation," he said.
