A SURVEY by a local market research company has sought to determine Jamaicans perspective on the new Highway 2000 project.
Here are a few of the survey results, conducted among a sample of 1,462 persons spread across the island.
Jamaica is ready for a highway the magnitude of the Highway 2000 project - 73 per cent.
Highway 2000 is long overdue - 69 per cent.
Government is capable of managing and handling the highway
- 64 per cent.
The toll system will be unaffordable - 55 per cent
The toll system will be affordable - 36 per cent
A toll system is not only good for First World countries - 50 per cent.
Highway 2000 will help to make the country prosperous
- 71 per cent.
The best idea Government has ever thought of - 48 per cent
Not the best idea Government has ever thought of - 49 per cent
Foreign investors should not be given full control of the highway - 61 per cent.
Traffic congestion will be lessened - 90 per cent.
The tourist industry will reap positive rewards from Highway 2000 - 88 per cent.
The highway will result in faster movement of goods and services - 48 per cent
The highway will not result in faster movement of goods and services - 49 per cent
It will help to make Jamaicans more productive - 96 per cent.
Workers will get to work earlier than they now do - 63 per cent.
A foreign investor will do a better job on the highway than a local
- 64 per cent
It is important to know who is paying for the project - 64 per cent
