Barclay heads KSAFA

Barclay... new KSAFA president.

Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

CHIEF FINANCIAL Officer at Jamaica National Building Society Carlton Barclay was elected the new head of the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) at the annual congress held at the Gleaner Sports Club yesterday.

Barclay, also a member of Duhaney Park Football Club, said his company was willing to help Kingston and St. Andrew football - especially as having helped out the sport in recent years.

"My institution (JNBS) is already a big sponsor of football, that helps in terms of sponsorship," Barclay said.

I have an organisation that supports me and therefore we can make a difference in terms of going forward," the newly-elected president told The Gleaner.

"I plan to bring an improved image to KSAFA, so I plan to have a constitutional reform. The type of organisation that is here currently has been inefficient because it hasn't met since May of last year and that can't happen under my administration," he said.

Of his victory over Howard McIntosh and Allie McNab, Barclay said: "I think the congress voted for competence, experience, wisdom and knowledge and not necessarily against anyone."

Barclay collected 43 votes against McNab's 13 and McIntosh's two.

"I was told before that I have the support of the clubs, the clubs wanted a change because the previous administration failed and I was seem as the candidate to make that change," he said.

"I already have plans for a website for which I have secured the technical expertise in order to develop the site and that should be on my agenda early in the new administration," Barclay said while promising a better run organisation.

Patrick Roberts (33 votes) defeated Carlton Dennis (19) and McIntosh (five) for the first vice presidency, while Dennis (39) held off McIntosh (16) for the second vice president position.

Orville Marshall (27) won the General Secretary position ahead of Basil Waite and Gregory Simms (12 each), while Simms took the assistant post unopposed. The new Treasurer is Rudolph Speid and he will be assisted by Brian Rose.
