THE EDITOR, Sir:
What's cookin' with Melville? How can he discuss the sniper in the D.C. area in the same breath with the current tenant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? Incidentally, last I looked most Americans are backing his approach to the terrorists.
Whatever they are up to now, it has not been on our shores.
Moreover, violence will indeed be found in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, but it is not unique to America. I can recall the day when one of the leading causes of deaths in Jamaica was hacking by machete during the sugar cane harvest. Other old timers will bear me out.
As for the solution to the sniper problem, it seems we had it in our grasp last year when we failed to deport Malvo back to Montego Bay or wherever he crawled out from. Instead we let him morph into Public Enemy No. One.
Good thing we have Colin Powell as living proof that Jamaica exports the very best along with the very worst. Otherwise the anti-immigrant rednecks would seize upon Malvo to unfairly beat up on the beautiful land of fine, Blue Mountain coffee and smooth Tia Maria. Myself, I look forward to my sixth visit to your lovely island.
By the way, I see where a poll has chosen Secretary Powell as the person most people in America would like to have as their boss. Are you listening Martin? Free at last. Free at last. Thank God Almighty...
