KAMEIKA SHERWOOD is the only newcomer to Jamaica's senior netball team named
for the upcoming World Netball Championship here next year.
The 18-year-old defender is not new to the game in terms of representing Jamaica
having played for the Under-16 team twice.
A past student of Ardenne High School, the lanky Sherwood represents Seneca
in local club competitions.
She was among members of the 13-member squad that engaged in another strenuous
training session at the National Stadium Complex yesterday conducted by coaches
Maureen Hall, Janet Guy and trainer Clifton Forbes.
Said Sherwood of the sessions: "It's a lot of hard work as expected but I'm
managing. I know it's going to be a lot different from when I played for the
Under-16 team but I'm prepared for the challenge. The other girls have been
very nice and I'm trying to learn as much as I can from them."
Captained by veteran Oberon Pitterson the team also includes Tasha Morgan,
Lavern McKenzie, Sharon Wiles, Kaydia Kentish, Tiffannie Wolfe, Carla Williams,
Nichala Gibson, Elaine Davis, Nadine Ffrench, Nadine Bryan and Althea Byfield.
More than 28 teams have been confirmed for the World Championships which will
be held from July 11-20.
