US customs representatives to address shipping community

A UNITED STATES customs representative is in the island to address the local shipping community on developments relating to the transmission of manifests and Bills of Lading.

Scott Lowen, a Senior Special Agent assigned to the Office of Investigations, US Customs Service in Miami, Florida, is to speak to the members of the Shipping Association of Jamaica, during a rap session tomorrow, at the SAJ Complex, Newport West in Kingston.

Mr. Lowen has worked with the US government for more than 25 years and is currently the Jamaican Liaison Officer for the Customs Service, conducting investigations in the fields of money laundering, narcotics and Customs Fraud. He was in charge of the Nassau, Bahamas office for four years and worked out of the US Embassy in Nassau.

He is expected to field questions and engage in discussion with the Association's members who include shipping agents, terminal/wharf operators, freight consolidators and forwarders, equipment specialists, stevedoring contractors, warehouse operators, container haulage contractors and marine surveyors, among others.

In a bid to keep its members abreast of local and international developments, the Shipping Association has organised a number of rap sessions, inviting experts to address its membership and staff on
pertinent issues.
