THE CHANCERY and Protocol Section of the Office of the Prime Minister in consultation with the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade have advised that the following terms are to be used in reference to recipients of the honour Order of the Nation:
The Prime Minister is now formally styled as 'the Most Honourable P.J. (or when relevant Percival James) Patterson, ON, PC, QC, MP or when appropriate 'the Most Honourable P.J. Patterson'.
In referring to him by office only, he is now referred to as 'the Most Honourable the Prime Minister'.
The Leader of the Opposition is now formally styled as 'the Most Honourable Edward (or when relevant Edward Philip George) Seaga, ON, PC, MP, and when appropriate 'the Most Honourable Edward Seaga'.
When referring to him and his spouse jointly, they are formally styled as 'the Most Honourable Edward Seaga and the Most Honourable Mrs. Seaga'.
In referring to Mrs. Seaga alone she is formally styled as 'the Most Honourable Mrs. Seaga and not the most Honourable Mrs. Carla Seaga'.
The Rt. Honourable Hugh Lawson Shearer is now formally styled as 'the Most Honourable Hugh Lawson Shearer, ON, OJ, PC'; or when appropriate 'the Most Honourable Hugh Shearer'.
The style of address for his spouse is 'the Most Honourable Mrs. Hugh Shearer'. In her professional capacity she is styled Dr. Denise Eldemire-Shearer'.
The late Honourable Michael Manley is now formally referred to as 'the late Most Honourable Michael Manley, ON, OM, OCC' or when appropriate 'the late Most Honourable Michael Manley'.
His widow is now formally styled 'the Most Honourable Mrs. Michael Manley' and not 'the Most Honourable Mrs. Glynn Manley'."
The late Sir Donald Sangster is now formally referred to as 'the late Most Honourable Sir Donald Sangster, ON, KCVO'.
