PRESIDENT OF the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Captain Horace Burrell has described as 'erroneous' a recent report which said the JFF had received a match fee of US$200,000 for the recent friendly against Nigeria in Lagos.
"Upon being made aware of the report, the Nigerian Football authorities held a press conference prior to the match and made it quite clear that the arrangement was that the Jamaica Football Federation would receive a match fee of US$70,000," Capt. Burrell told The Gleaner yesterday.
"This $70,000 includes match fees for the players, cost of airfares between Kingston and London, hotel accommodation in London on both legs of the trip and transportation costs in London," he said.
The JFF boss said the federation had a two-tiered system of match fees for players. Overseas-based players, including Ian Goodison and Robert Scarlett who are back home but have not yet gained release from their European clubs, collected US$1,000 and local players US$500.
"In addition to the fees, all players stood to earn a bonus of US$1,000 for a win and $500 for a draw," Capt. Burrell said.
A report appearing in the This Day newspaper in Nigeria and carried by The Gleaner last Wednesday had suggested that a total of US$300,000 would be shared between two visiting countries for friendly internationals this month with the Reggae Boyz taking home US$200,000.
