THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE THIRD One Day International cricket match in the recent series between India and the West Indies is now history but I have a problem with the final decision.
That India in all probability would have passed the West Indies score is not in question - although it would have been interesting to see what two quick wickets might have done.
What bothers me is whether or not the decision to award victory to India, based on the Duckworth-Lewis system, is not, under the circumstances, supporting crowd indiscipline and hooliganism.
A host country should not reap the spoils if its people behave in a manner to disrupt the game to their advantage.
This point should be driven home very strongly so that the people understand that unseemly behaviour will only serve to put the home team at a disadvantage.
