Earl Wright gave much of himself

THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS with extreme sadness that I read of the brutal murder of one of my Earth Science colleagues, Mr Earl Wright. Like myself he was also a past president of the Geological Society of Jamaica and gave much of himself. I knew him to be a very gentle, caring and helpful person, so I am quite perplexed as to what precipitated this terrible act and leads me to wonder if it could have been a case of mistaken identity?
Regardless of the reason, he will be sorely missed by his family, friends and members of the geological community particularly in Jamaica. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the memorial service for him on Wednesday, November 27, at the Mona Chapel as I am on an overseas assignment. I would appreciate, therefore, the opportunity through this medium to extend my deepest condolences to his family and to let them know that we, too, grieve for his untimely death.
