THREE LEADING pharmacists were honoured for their work in the pharmaceutical industry on Sunday at the LASCO Pharmacist of the Year Awards.
St. Ann's Bay Hospital Senior Pharmacist, Judith Linton, and Chief Pharmacist at the Cornwall Regional Hospital, Yvonne Amar, shared the Public Sector Pharmacist Award, while Ligua-nea Drug and Garden Store pharmacist, Graeme Isaacs, was named Pharmacist of the Year.
"I speak on behalf of my fellow Jamaicans who want you to know that they are grateful, they are indebted and they appreciate your service," Chairman and CEO of the LASCO group of companies, Lascelles Chin, told the awardees at the Terra Nova Hotel, Kingston.
"We may not realise it, but every day across Jamaica, we put the lives and health of our children, parents, spouses and friends in your hands. You are those 'silent saviours' toiling away behind your counters dispensing, in many cases, life-saving pharmaceuticals, or perhaps a little something to make the flu more bearable. Whatever it may be, you are an important part of both preserving life and making it enjoyable," he added.
Mrs. Linton was chosen for "outstanding service to her profession" and has been recognised by professional organisations, in both 1994 and 1995, for her contribution to the field. Mrs. Amar was lauded for "Twenty-five years of sterling service" while the "pleasing personality" of "easy going" Graeme Isaacs lifted him above strong challenges from three runners-up, Nadine Brown-Panton, David Tavares and Avery Murray. Mayfair Pharmacy pharmacist, Michelle Russell, received special commendation for being the Most Nominated Pharmacist.
