THE ORGANISERS of last Saturday's Reggae Marathon in Negril have expressed their condolences to the family of an American runner, Jim Lindstrom, who died after completing the course.
A release from the organisers of the event, Jamdammers Running Club, of Kingston, yesterday said that Mr. Linstrom collapsed after completing the course and "despite immediate and sustained effort by a full medical team, led by Dr. Winston Dawes, died in an ambulance en route to the Cornwall Regional Hospital."
The release said that a post mortem is to be conducted and a subsequent statement will be issued by the American Stroke Association (ASA), to which he is affiliated. Mr. Linstrom's family was advised of his death by the United States' embassy in St. Andrew and the ASA.
The police identified Lindstrom as a 59-year-old finance executive from Boston, Massachusetts. He was one of 820 participants in the second staging of the annual event, and though he didn't win, he was among the top runners.
He collapsed about five minutes after receiving his medal, police said.
