THE POLICE Officers Club on Hope Road, was transformed into a 'city of lights' on Friday at the Jamaica Constabulary Force's annual Christmas party.
The cricket ground was an able substitute for a parking lot for the numerous cars of guests who turned out for what is fast becoming one of the more popular events on the social calendar.
Once you weaved your way through the cars, you were greeted by a specially constructed walkway covered with vines and lights. At the end of the walkway stood Commissioner of Police Francis Forbes and Deputy Commissioner, Tilford Johnson to greet everyone.
Once inside, you quickly realised that everybody who was anybody was present politicians, diplomats, members of the private sector and, of course, police personnel from all ranks and divisions. A rush of hushed conversation announced the arrival of Governor General, Sir Howard Cooke. Escorted by his usual security staff plus additional police personnel, Sir Howard made his way around the large gathering to the sounds of the Jamaica Constabulary and Steel Pan bands.
In true police force tradition, there was the bovine roasting on the open fire; spinning away on the rotisserie. The gathering buzzed with every topic from the war brewing in the Middle East to the violence here as guests sipped on fine wine.
Guests who partied with the police included: Opposition Leader, Edward Seaga; Member of Parliament, Delroy Chuck; Senator, Deika Morrison; Chief Justice, Lensley Wolfe; chairman of the Inner-city Development Committee, Sameer Younis; head of the Constabulary Communication Network, Superintendent James Forbes, British High Commissioner, Peter Mathers; Canadian High Commissioner, John Robinson; Trinidadian High Commissioner, Dennis Francis; Japanese Ambassador, Isao Otsuka; Chinese Ambassador, Guo Chongli; Russian Ambassador, Edward Malayan and Honorary Consul of Ecuador, Clelia Hunter.
