Jamaica is our responsibility
published: Thursday | December 19, 2002

The Editor, Sir:

In reference to the article published on December 16, 2002, entitled "Bring in the investments, Mr. Seaga:"

Like the author, I agree that for "love of country" we should all work together to bring about economic growth, real change and advancement for Jamaica. However, how do you propose that Mr. Seaga would instil the necessary confidence in the potential investors. He is not in a position to direct the establishment of to necessary fiscal and economic climate that he believes will work.

If you had no confidence that the Government is capable of good stewardship of the affairs of this country would you, or could you, extend such confidence to investors to come and invest in Jamaica? If your answer is yes, then what are your views on deception versus integrity?

I believe that the ball is in the 'people's court' where it has always been. Not Mr. Seaga's and not Mr. Patterson's, for that matter. Until we demand more of our politicians and of ourselves, and until we become committed to a belief system that will make us all better people we will not have started rolling that ball. The ball is in your court, in my court and in our neighbour's court, as much as it is in anybody else's

I am etc,

CARLTON LAWRENCE
