THE EDITOR, Sir:
I have noticed the increasing pronouncements emanating from the Director of Elections, many of which seem to go beyond his role as the mere Director.
I have noticed that since the election the Director has:
(a) Dismissed Returning Officers without recourse to the EOJ; and (b) made pronouncements on election spending.
It would perhaps be made more in keeping with his job, if he concentrated on seeking to correct the awareness and errors which were created by failure of the EOJ to prevent;
1. Electors were being left off the list between Nomination Day and Election Day.
2. The confusion created for voters on Election Day by the late arrival of lists.
3. The failure of supervisors and the EOJ to respond to special security requirements in a constituency ultimately leading to physical assault on Election Day workers. All of which took place in central Clarendon.
I am, etc
