THE NATIONAL Water Commission (NWC) has spent millions of dollars to improve water supply systems in communities in St. Ann, benefiting some 4,000 persons.
According to acting district manager, Noel Pottinger, water supplies were put in place for the communities of Warwick Mountain and Orange Hill in the parish.
"A new pumping station and pipelines have been installed in Warwick Mountain at a cost of $3 million, benefiting over 300 residents; and over in Orange Hill, the Brown's Town supply has been extended to serve homes and the community tank," Mr. Pottinger said.
Improvement work was also done to the existing supplies in Exchange, Clapham, Moneague, Thicketts, Farm Town and Woods Town.
Mr. Pottinger noted that in Exchange, pipelines were upgraded in Lancewood, Gentle Street, Cornpiece, Hand to Mouth, Middle Street and the surrounding areas.
"There was improvement in the pumping operations at Clapham and Moneague, where over 500 households are benefiting, while a new water supply system has been installed in Thicketts, benefiting over 1,000 residents," he said.
Mr. Pottinger said the water supply systems in Farm Town and Woods Town were also upgraded to benefit over 1,000 residents, and that upgrading work was carried out on the pipelines in Content, and a new pump had been installed at Breadnut Hill.
