American Airlines makes emergency landing in Kgn
published: Thursday | January 2, 2003

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP):

A MIAMI-BOUND American Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Kingston yesterday after experiencing mechanical problems, airport officials said.

None of the 175 passengers or crew members aboard the 757 aircraft were hurt, airport police Sgt. Delroy Clarke said.

The plane originated in Medellin, Colombia and landed shortly after 11 a.m. EST (1600 GMT) at Kingston's Norman Manley International Airport with fire brigades and ambulances standing by, Clarke said.

The nature of the mechanical problems wasn't immediately clear.

The flight was cancelled and passengers were being booked on other flights, an airline employee at the airport's ticket counter said.

American Airlines officials weren't immediately available for comment.
