Sir Clifford's humility, greatness

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I READ with interest the letter by Segree P. Brown in The Gleaner of January 4, 2003 headed "Why No Honour for Sir Clifford?" I would like to add support to Mr. Brown's suggestion.
When my wife and I and four young children lived in Kingston some years ago while Sir Clifford was Governor-General, we were nearby neighbours of Sir Clifford and Lady Campbell when they were spending time in their private residence in the Cherry Garden area. On numerous occasions, usually on a Sunday, Sir Clifford would stroll around the neighbourhood and exchange pleasantries with all and sundry. He always had time to stop for a chat, and particularly enjoyed doing so with young children.
While we always taught and expected our youngsters to address this gentleman and wonderful human being as "Sir Clifford" he would respond to them with the retort "just call me GG," and eventually they did, always to his delight.
Is that the stuff of humility and greatness? I think so.
