12 hours of noise

THE EDITOR, Sir:
COMING HOME after church, today, I was looking forward to a restful afternoon. However, I could forget about that. Not by choice, however. The man with his big sound system, just around the corner had big plans and so the neighbourhood and I, had no choice but to endure the loud, loud music for the next 12 hours.
It began at 2 pm and at this moment, 12 midnight it continues at full blast. Though I called the police three times, and on the third occasion I was promised that a unit would "go out there", no change has taken place. Am I surprised? No, but I feel definitely robbed of my rights as a citizen of this country.
You Mr. Selector: Do you have the right to disturb people with your noise? You're very selfish! I am robbed of my rest, my sleep, my choice to spend my time in the way I wish, without troubling anyone, and you infringe on my rights. And that is unjust and abusive! What makes you better or more important than me? You do not have the right to push your noise on me! I don't trouble your space, please respect mine! And the police? Poor performance! Is it not your duty to protect the rights of the citizens of this country? Just do your job, please.
Tomorrow I will be working hard to do my part to make Jamaica a better place - though I may be really tired, as I did not get a chance to rest today. Yes, and I will pray ...
