PNP candidates selected in N Trelawny
published: Monday | January 27, 2003

FALMOUTH:

THE PEOPLE'S National Party (PNP) has selected all five divisional candidates in North Trelawny for the upcoming Local Government Election.

The seat in Falmouth is to be contested by Garth Wilkinson, Duncans will be represented by nurse Hyacinth Meikle, Calvin Seivwright will contest the seat in Sherwood Content, Donald Kindness is to contest the seat in Wakefield, while Claudette Jackson, the only incumbent, will contest the polls in the Martha Brae Division.

Mayor of Falmouth, Councillor Joseph Wright, in confirming the selections, said the choices were not made by the delegates but by the party. He said the process was transparent with the candidates applying and were then interviewed. He noted that the PNP was very careful that the controversy which attended the constituency selection would not be the same in the divisional choices.

Except for the Falmouth Division, where a faction wanted former Member of Parliament Wendell Stewart to contest the seat, and who threatened either not to vote or give their votes to the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), the selection of the four relatively new candidates has been accepted by party members and supporters.
