Please explain, Mr. Espeut
published: Friday | January 31, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

If Peter Espeut correctly reflects the views of the Catholic church in his column of January 29, how then can he explain the following:

1. That Mary is prayed to as a mediator to God when there is absolutely no mention of this in the scriptures?

2. That the church is founded on Peter rather than the "rock" of Peter's revelation that Jesus was the Christ?

3. That the bread and wine of the Holy Communion sacrament literally becomes the body and blood of Christ rather than symbols of his sacrifice?

While I agree that God can reveal truths to mankind outside of the Bible, should they not be consistent with his revelations contained in the Bible?

I am, etc.,
