THE EDITOR, Sir:THE RISE of dancehall music has surely been promoting the great Jamaican culture. This is due to the likes of Beenie Man, Sean Paul and Lady Saw. For the last week in January of this year Sean Paul's new video Get Busy has been the MTV Jam of the week. People have commented on the originality of this video, as the setting is a regular house party with a miserable but humorous house owner.
Only two weeks ago his collaboration with Busta Rhymes, Make It Clap, was also the Jam of the Week. Beenie Man's video Bossman that features Lady Saw and Sean Paul has been popular on the club scene. The smooth rhythm and cool lyrics has the partygoers moving. Also the No Doubt featuring Lady Saw has been impacting on listeners. Clubgoers enjoy that vibrant dancehall rhythm has been giving Jamaica a good name and has been promoting the island for this year's Spring Break 2003 as a 'must-go' location. People still go crazy in clubs when they hear Just Gimmi the Light.
It was a great end for 2002 for Sean Paul and he seems to be doing really good on the U.S. charts. He was featured along with Beenie Man on the BET 106 & Park that comes on during the weekdays in the afternoon and they were simply good.
They acknowledged where they were coming from and in no way whatsoever tried to hide their real Jamaican patois.
People in the U.S. like the accent and that's what they want to hear if they listen to an interview. In closing, I would just like to say that these entertainers, among others, have been making a good impact on the U.S. and I can't wait to see the likes of Elephant Man, Capleton and Sizzla doing some videos on the international scene.
I am, etc.,
