MEMBER OF Parliament for North East Manchester, Audley Shaw, yesterday gave high commendation to the Principal and staff of the Mizpah All-Age School, for the tremendous improvements in increased enrolment and academic performance over the past six years.
Mr. Shaw, who was also addressing parents, teachers and students at the annual school harvest, said that since becoming principal of the school, six years ago, Doreen Spence and her staff, along with the Board under the chairmanship of Rev. Trevor Dawkins of the Mizpah Moravian Church, had increased enrolment from some 50 students to over 230 students today.
Mr. Shaw said that parents who had previously sent their children to neighbouring schools in Christiana and Mandeville, had now developed confidence in the leadership of the school and had begun to send their children there.
The MP gave the school his undertaking to work with them to get additional facilities at the school, in order to make it more comfortable for the students.
These, he said, include water closets to replace the pit toilets which were still in use at the school, as well as a Computer Lab.
Mr. Shaw also urged the Ministry of Education to speed up its plans to upgrade the school to a Junior High School. "By their performance they have earned the right to this upgrade and today I am proud of the outstanding achievements of the school". Mr. Shaw said.
