St Aubyn missing in action
published: Thursday | February 13, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

SINCE THE October 16, 2002, General Election, there has been no sign of our Member of Parliament, Dr. St. Aubyn Bartlett, except on TV. He has not been in the constituency and all efforts to reach the office of the Member of Parliament for Eastern St. Andrew, in which I live and voted, have proved futile.

Prior to the General Election I was of the opinion that the Office of the Member of Parliament would be open and readily accessible to all constituents. Now four months later there is no way of reaching our MP unless you go to the race track where, being a vet, he has the more important job. Is this right Mr. Seaga? It appears to me that what the constituents of Eastern St. Andrew will need to do for the imminent Local Government Elections is to send a strong signal that we will not tolerate this sort of "sloppy" representation.

I hope someone, maybe his brother, will tell this rookie that MP is short for "Member of Parliament" and not "Missing Person". If he cannot begin to show signs of someone who intends to make a difference in Eastern St. Andrew then the JLP and its executive for the constituency had better start looking a more suitable candidate for the next election.

I am, etc.,

SYLVIA BROWN-BURKE

Hope Pastures
