Ambassador who?
published: Friday | February 14, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I have never been clear about the purpose of our Special Ambassadors. It appears to me that these appointments are just another ploy by succeeding governments to reward their henchmen. What is worse is that with few exceptions, most are distinguished by their incompetence.

What is the purpose of an Ambassador for Children, given the recent media reports about the abuse of children in State care?

The real sick joke however is the Tourism Ambassador, Frank Pringle. I cannot recall many utterances of substance by Ambassador Pringle when he was Tourism Minister. I have not read anywhere that he has offered any leadership to the tourism industry during its recent crisis.

It seems to me that at a time when the nation needs comic relief, all the special ambassadors should form a 'comedy Club'.

I am, etc.,
