Moravek
TECHNICAL director Carl Brown seems to have found the man or one of them he had in mind when he said in early January that he is looking outside for expertise to add to the national coaching staff.
American William "Bill" Moravek could be given a job as a member of the coaching staff as early as February 23 according to president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Captain Horace Burrell. When asked about the status of Moravek who has been seen on and off around the national team and the Under-17 teams for close to weeks Burrell said that talks were taking place with the American but he is not yet a part of the coaching staff.
"Technical director Brown had indicated that he would like to add some outside people to his staff and this particular individual (Moravek) is in discussions with us," said Burrell who added that he interviewed the American a few days ago.
"The decision on whether or not he will be a part of the staff will be made in another 10 days," he added.
On the matter of Moravek's frequent presence in the island despite it being said that he is a part of the coaching staff of English Premiership club Southampton Burrell responded: "As part of the discussions it was decided that if he is to be taken on board then he will not begin until March 1. This is one of the conditions of discussion. He would not be readily available."
Moravek is no stranger to Jamaica as he coached Seba United in 2000. According to a profile on his website Moravek said he is currently a coach at Southampton, from "2000-2001 he was head national coach of the British Virgin Islands national team and Seba United. He also coached the Maryland Mania in 1998-1999 in the United States A League.
His profile also stated he became an assistant coach at Howard University in 1994. While a part of the staff Howard University went to the 1997 and 1998 Mid-Continent Championships and a1997 Division 1 title.
Moravek, according to his profile, "has held head coaching positions for the Olympic Development programmes in both Virginia and Maryland."
Interestingly, the holder of a US Soccer Federation "A" license and American Youth Soccer Organisation diploma is the president and director of the Moravek Soccer School in Loudoun County, Virginia. Among the names on his coaching staff are Steve Baker, coach Southampton FC, Peter Cargill assistant coach Jamaica and Clovis de Oliveira former technical director of Jamaica's national programme.
"The long and short of it all is that I have given the technical director the permission to select his staff. It is his recommendation and I would not want to go against any of his selections and I trust his judgement," said Burrell when questioned about what appeared to be Moravek's lack of coaching pedigree.
He continued: "We are hoping that it will work. We have to give him (Brown) all the support as we have done with the Brazilians."
