SPALDINGS, Clarendon:
THE SANGUINETTI to Fearon road in North West Clarendon is being repaired under a $6 million road repair project.
The work which was started in December last year is being done by the Manchester-based E&W Construction and is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month.
Member of Parliament for the constituency Richard Azan told The Gleaner that the work currently being done along the more than one and a half miles stretch of road include the construction of drains and the installation of curves and channels and as soon as these are done the entire roadway will be asphalted to give a longer-lasting surface.
He said that oiling of the roadway in preparation for asphalting was carried out recently, an indication that the work could be finished within another two weeks.
However according to the Member of Parliament the completion of the project was also dependent on the National Water Commission, which has some amount of pipe work to be effected along that thoroughfare.
Mr. Azan is urging the NWC to move swiftly in the execution of their job so that the project can be completed on time or ahead of time to prevent cost over-run.
The Sanguinetti to Fearon road has been the scene of a number of demonstrations over the years by users complaining about the condition. Taxi drivers refused to use it for most of last year.
