Two die in road accident
published: Sunday | March 9, 2003

Claudia Gardner, Gleaner Correspondent

A MOTOR VEHICLE accident along the Aston King Highway in Hanover claimed the lives of two men yesterday morning and left three others nursing multiple injuries.

The dead men have been identified as 31-year-old labourer, Howard Williams, and 24-year-old carpenter, Eaton Bramwell, both of Cascade District in the parish.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network's Liaison Officer for Hanover, Sergeant Dowton Martin, shortly after 3:00 yesterday morning Mr. Williams was driving a Suzuki Swift motor car registration 5788AZ from the Uprising Nightclub in Sandy Bay, towards Lucea, with four passengers including Mr. Bramwell on board.

Upon reaching the community of Barbican, he lost control of the vehicle which ran over a precipice, and landed approximately 150 metres from the road.

Mr. Williams, Mr. Bramwell and two other passengers were thrown from the car. They were all taken to the Noel Homes Hospital where Mr. Williams was pronounced dead on arrival, while Mr. Bramwell died while undergoing treatment.

The other passengers, 22-year old labourer, Barrington Campbell, who was seriously injured, was airlifted from the Noel Homes Hospital to the Kingston Public Hospital, by a Jamaica Defence Force
helicopter.

Everton Kerr, 24, was transfered to the Cornwall Regional Hospital in serious but stable condition. The other passenger who received scratches and bruises was treated at the Noel Holmes Hospital.

The Hanover police are again appealing to motorists to observe the Road Code and drive with extreme care while travelling on the highway. They are also urging motorists to be on the lookout for cows which roam sections of the highway at all hours of the day and night.
