GUATEMALA CITY (AP):

THE UNITED States blanked Guatemala 3-0 yesterday to win CONCACAF's Group A qualifying round and advance to the 2003 FIFA Under-17 World Championship.

John DiRaimondo opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, Freddy Adu made it 2-0 with a goal in the 70th and Jamie Watson put the game away in the 88th.

The win gave the United States seven points, good enough for first place in the four-team qualifying field.

El Salvador and Jamaica played to a 1-1 tie earlier yesterday. Jamaica finished second overall with four points and will play the second-place finisher in CONCACF's Group B, with the winner moving on to the championships.

Cristopher Dulce scored for El Salvador in the 48th minute and Jamaica's Marlon Benbow knotted the game in injury time in a game that featured sloppy, disjointed play by both teams.

The United States cruised through the field, topping Jamaica and Guatemala and playing to a draw with El Salvador.

El Salvador finished third in the field with three points and host Guatemala managed just one point.
