When The Gleaner visited the area yesterday one young woman was seen with her two children and companion loading their belongings into a van. She said they were moving out, "because dem a come back".
She asserted that "a through de don dead mek dem a shoot up de place (and) dem seh dem want (kill) 50 more man".
The situation in the community has been tense since two weeks ago when three people were killed in the community. Residents allege that as a result of the those killings, men linked to gangs in the area retaliated, resulting in Monday night's killings.
The residents claim the gunmen are from the Hope Flats community, which is located on a hill overlooking Quarry Heights. "Dem just stay up there and look down and si every ting weh a gwaan dung yah," they asserted.
The Costabulary Communication Network (CCN) identified the three men who were killed on Monday night as Deno Williams, 24, a man known only as "Dave" and "Ice" and 28-year-old Phillip Warren, all of Kintyre addresses. A fourth, who was injured and admitted to hospital in a serious condition, was not identified.
The CCN said that at about 7:00 p.m. the four were sitting outside a wholesale grocery when a green Nissan Sunny motor car drove up. Four men reportedly alighted and and opened fire hitting them all over their bodies.
Williams and "Dave" died on thes spot, while the others were taken to hospital, where Warren died. The fourth man was admitted in a serious condition. The Papine police are investigating.
