Expel US, UK diplomats now

THE EDITOR, Sir:
US AND UK mission chiefs should be asked to leave Jamaica.
Our Prime Minister has spoken out forcefully against the illegal action of the Americans and British in Iraq. Yet words are only words - we need to prove that we mean them. Although it would not stop the bombing immediately, I feel that the worldwide message of condemnation would have more effect if Jamaica, and other countries which oppose this war, sent home the US and UK diplomatic Heads of Mission in their countries for at least as long it takes for the invading forces to leave Iraq, and possibly longer.
If it was some small country behaving so outrageously in the world, we would not hesitate to take such action. So, Mr. Patterson, let us take a lead as we have done in the past. Let us stand proud in face of this grave threat to both peace and justice in the world. Let us not even begin to think about hiding behind economic or political pragmatism. Let us send home the US Ambassador and British High Commissioner immediately, unless of course they are willing to denounce their respective head of government, in which case we could perhaps offer them political asylum, or even citizenship!
