Men kill each other in shoot-out
published: Monday | March 31, 2003

TWO MEN who opened fire on each other in a shoot-out were killed yesterday morning in the Union Gardens area on Spanish Town Road, Kingston.

The dead men have been identified as 23-year-old Conroy Walker also known as "Connie" of Delacree Park, Kingston 13 and 37-year-old Leroy Spencer, otherwise called "Devon" from Zebra Alley in Union Gardens.

Two 9mm pistols were also recovered by the police one Sig Sauer, serial number erased, with a magazine containing three rounds of ammunition; and a Maverick, serial number 020098 with a magazine containing another three rounds.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) the shoot-out between the two men occurred about 11:25 when they reportedly had an argument at the intersection of Daffodil Avenue and Zebra Alley. They then pulled guns and opened fire at each other.

Walker sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot while Spencer was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital. A search of the area by investigators found six 9mm spent shells and five live rounds.

Spencer's girlfriend, Novelette Campbell, told The Gleaner she and her companion were in their yard with their four daughters when he got up and went through the gate, apparently in response to a telephone call.

"Mi nuh know but one of our daughters said the phone ring and him (Spencer) seh five minutes," Campbell recalled.

Both Novelette and her mother, Detha Campbell, said they had no knowledge of Spencer being involved in any disputes with Williams as they were friends. However, the family of Spencer said they are now in fear that their lives may be in danger as they received threats that more killings would take place.

The St. Andrew South Homicide Unit which is investigating, has not established a motive behind the shootings.
