THE EDITOR, Sir:
In reference to The Gleaner editorial of Wednesday, March 26, headlined "Insolence of Office", I am cited as an example of some imagined conspiracy of silence existing among persons of authority in Jamaica.
I wish to deny that I am someone, who, as a public servant, would refuse to deal with the media. In fact, I have always made myself available to the media. My track record is there for all to see, as I believe that all public servants have a duty to provide relevant and timely information at all times to the public they serve.
Regarding the particular instance mentioned in the editorial, I was simply not available at the times I was called by The Gleaner reporter. However, as soon as I was made aware of the request, I tried to communicate with the reporter but it was too late as the reporter had already left office.
In my present position, I consider myself to be a servant of the people and responsible to the people. I again deny categorically that I would refuse to provide information to the public about the business of the people.
I feel strongly that as a public servant, we are fully responsible and accountable to the Jamaica public. I have always practised this and will continue to do so for as long as I am a servant of the people.
I am, etc.,
